Clare Active Retirement PRO Urges Govt Not To Let Pension Recommendations Gather Dust On The Shelf

Clare’s PRO of Active Retirement Ireland is urging the Government not to let recommendations on the state pension sit on the shelf to gather dust.

As part of the government’s ongoing review of the State’s current pension plan, an Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection has called for the qualifying age to stay at 66 and for a ban on mandatory retirement clauses in employment contracts.

The Pensions Commission last year recommended incremental increases due to an aging population living causing a strain on the state’s pension pot.

Shannon-based Active Retirement member, Kay Murphy believes an increase to the qualifying age would be unfair and she hopes the recommendations will be signed into law without delay.
