Clare’s birth rates have fallen by 15 percent in the past decade.

365 births were registered in this county in the first quarter of this year.

New CSO figures show number of babies born in this county between January and March was the highest number in that three month period since 2017.

It’s a 17 percent jump on 2021’s birth numbers here.

However, the broader picture still shows an overall decline in the number of births in Clare.

This quarter’s figure represents a 15 percent drop from 2012 levels, when 430 births were documented in the Banner, and is an even greater drop from the 485 registered in the same period in 2009.

However, Clare’s declining birth rate is slightly below the national average of 16.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the most common age to have a baby in Clare is now between 35 and 39, with more than a third of mums in the first quarter of the year here falling into that demographic.

36 mothers were aged 40 or over, while just four were under 20 years of age.
