Clare CATU Calls For Stricter Penalties For Landlords With Sub-Standard Properties

Calls are being made in Clare for stricter penalties to be levelled at landlords whose properties are found to be in sub-standard condition.

It’s been revealed that of the 1,058 rental properties inspected by Clare County Council last year, over 93% were found to be in breach of the Standards For Rented Houses Regulations.

The local authority has confirmed that non-compliant landlords receive an improvement letter detailing works to be completed within a prescribed timeframe.

Clare Chairperson of the Community Action Tenants Union George Stavrou insists penalties must be put in place to incentivise landlords to carry out works on properties found to be in disrepair.
