Charities across Clare are raising concern over a lack of available accommodation when the ban is lifted later this month.

They want to see a firm focus on supports for those who fall into homelessness, as well as the provision of temporary accommodation.

With just eight days to go to the lifting of the eviction ban, a number of organisations in Clare have expressed concern over the impact for at-risk groups.

Clare Haven, which offers refuge to victims of domestic violence across the county, received 341 requests for admission last year.

Manager of the service, Dr Siobhán O’Connor says that because of the volume of calls, they could only accomodate one third of families who sought shelter.

She fears the lifting of the eviction ban will leave victims of domestic violence with nowhere to go.

Midwest Simon, meanwhile, is calling for further engagement between the government, local authorties and housing charities to streamline emergency support services.

414 Adults were availing of emergency accomodation in the MidWest at the end of January, with 61 of those in Clare.

A receent report condcuted by Sinn Féín identified Clare County Council as one of seventeen local authorities nationwide at capacity in terms of providing emergency accomodation.

MidWest Simon CEO, Jackie Bonfield says co-operation between services is vital to help alleviate the homeless crisis.
