Clare Climate Action Group Lambasts Government For National Grid Data Centre Drain

A Clare climate action group has issued a scathing criticism of government policy for enabling a significant surge in energy consumption by data centres.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office shows 21% of all electricity generated for the national grid last year was used to power over 80 facilities across the country.

In June, Futureproof Clare initiated a judicial review against a proposed €1.2bn Data Centre in Ennis, which would require 200MW (Mega-Watts) of electricity and the construction of a gas powered energy centre to operate.
