Clare Councillors are calling on the education minister to rethink changes to the 3rd level grants scheme, amid claims that neighbouring students are now getting different amounts of college funding or missing out on thousands of euro towards their education.
The recent budget ammended the qualifying distance for the non adjacent or higher grant rate from 24 to 45 kilometres meaning some Clare students attending colleges in Galway or Limerick will now receive much less that in previous years.
Students who live within this distance will recevie thousands of euro less than those outside it and North Clare Councillor Joe Arkins says he’s heard from many concerned students and their parents
