Clare County Council is calling on HIQA to expedite it’s review of emergency capacity in the MidWest.

It comes amid confirmation from the Health and Information Quality Authority that it’s long awaited report to determine if another Emergency Department is needed in the region will be published next Summer.

The timeline has been met with widespread criticism from local lobby groups and Oireachtas members, following the recent deferrals of outpatient and elective appointments at Ennis General to ease pressure at University Hospital Limerick.

Shannon Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan fears a lengthy review will inevitably result in many more patients suffering.
