Clare county Council hopeful beach problem only temporary

Clare County Council is optimistic that measures to prohibit swimming at three Clare beaches will be short-lived.

The local authority has advised Clare residents to stay out of the water after routine tests this week discovered traces of E-Coli in the water of beaches at Lahinch, Kilkee and Spanish Point.  The blue flags at Lahinch and Kilkee have also been temporariy remove

The decision was taken following consultation with the HSE, An Taisce and the EPA but Clare’s other beaches or inland waterways are unaffected.

Clare County Council is blaming recent heavy rainfall for this situation, and director of services Ann Haugh hopes an upturn in conditions will see it pass.
