Clare farmers join EU Protest as Brussels Budget talks continue

Britain’s David Cameron and the French President François Hollande are set to meet today in a bid to avert the collapse of EU budget talks.

Britain, which is one of the big contributors to the EU budget wants to cut funding, while France is seeking to protect spending on agriculture.

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan said it wasn’t clear if agreement on the budget could be reached before Ireland takes over the EU presidency in January.

Meanwhile Clare farmers are taking part in the IFA’s protest at EU House in Dublin over feared cuts to the agricultural budget at the Brussels talks.

Chairman of the Clare Branch of the IFA Andrew Dundass says its vital a deal is done before Ireland take over the Presidency of the EU.
