Clare farmers say they will lobby government representatives to press the need for a deal to be struck on the common agricultural policy.

Irish farmers are facing uncertainty after a collapse in EU budget talks last week, which it’s feared will now prolong the wait for an agreement in the common agricultural policy.

Ireland holds the Presidency of the EU for the first half of next year, but it’s now feared that any chance to use this leverage to gain a strong deal will be lost as a result of the delay.

Chair of the IFA in Clare Andrew Dundass feels it’s an issue of importance to the wider Irish population, and not just farmers.
