Clare Gardaí are set to escort abnormal loads across the county’s road network over the coming weeks.

Members of the Clare Roads Policing Unit will be escorting wind turbine blades from Galway and Foynes Port.

The convoy’s will be travelling along the M18 motorway and N68 and N85 national primary routes in the coming weeks between the hours of midnight and 5am.

They will be accompanied by members of Clare’s Road Policing Units in an effort to minimise disruption and ensure public safety and Gardaí are asking members of the public to obey all instructions when given.

It comes as Energia Renewables has announced the first successful delivery of wind turbine blades to Crossmore Wind Farm near Lissycasey.

The transportation of the 57-metre-long blades was undertaken overnight on Wednesday morning with a Garda escort.

The Crossmore Wind Farm remains on track to enter commercial operation in 2025 and will consist of seven wind turbines generating up to 25.2 MW of renewable energy.

It’s estimated that when complete, the windfarm will produce enough energy to power 14,500 homes.
