Clare’s Fine Gael TD has criticised the former Agriculture Minister for what he’s described as a serious lack of judgement in attending the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner this week.

Minister Dara Calleary has resigned after attending the event at a hotel in Clifden, Co. Galway on Wednesday, which was attended by 80 people.

Three Fine Gael politicians who attended the event have also been sanctioned.

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD believes it was fundamentally wrong for the golfing event to go ahead, saying it should have been stopped at the get-go.

Meelick Deputy Cathal Crowe has acknowledged people’s difficulty in accepting announcements on restrictions, when they see politicians failing to follow the advice.

But he’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he believes Dara Calleary has shown leadership in resigning and that the focus should remain on the Government’s positive achievements.
