A Clare Government Senator is making fresh calls for Cabinet to accelerate proposals to introduce a living wage.

The measure is contained in the Programme for Government, with experts suggesting a current living wage here would be €12.90 per hour.

That compares to the minimum wage in place at the moment, which is €10.50.

A new bill is currently making its way through the Oireachtas to ensure employers cannot use tips as part of an employee’s basic income.

Inagh-based Green Senator Roisin Garvey says the matter needs to be addressed quickly.
