Clare Haven Hopeful New Dedicated State Agency Will Allow Abuse Survivors To Remain In Local Communities

Clare Haven claims the state’s new dedicated agency to tackle domestic abuse can only be successful if it receives the support of ancillary services.

The Minister for Justice has this week officially established Cuan, the statutory agency dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic, sexual and gender-based violence.

In 2023, Gardaí responded to almost six domestic abuse call-outs in Clare each day and one of Cuan’s chief objectives will be to double the number of refuge spaces available nationwide.

Clare Haven Director, Dr Siobhán O’Connor says enabling victim households to remain in their local communities is vital.
