A Clare member of ISME’s National Council says the time has come to phase out the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

The first step of the phasing out of the state support has begun, with the emergency financial support closed to new applicants from today, while the weekly rate will be gradually reduced over three stages from September.

There are now 5,048 people claiming the PUP in this county; a 67% drop since the peak in May 2020, with a further 187 people closing their payment in Clare this week

Siobhan Ní Ghairbhith of St Tola’s Irish Goat Cheese Farm in Ennistymon is a member of ISME’s National Council, and she’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that some employers have faced challenges in getting employees back to work.
