Clare Live Register Figures Drop 10% In The Last Year

The number of people on the Live Register in Clare has fallen by nearly 10% in the last year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there are over 4,404 claiming unemployment benefit in the county in January.

While the numbers claiming some form of unemployment benefit have marginally increased from December’s figure, there’s been a 10% decrease in the numbers on the live reg in Clare in the past 12 months.

In January 2023, 5,313 in the county had signed on, however more than 500 fewer were on the register this year.

Nearly half of all those in receipt of an unemployment payment were based in Ennis, with 2,289 people claiming in this area.

In comparison, East Clare saw the fewest number of claimants with 547 people registered in this region in January.

Finally, there was 1,208 people signing on in North Clare and 760 in West Clare in January.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for January was 176,700 people, down by 4% on the same month in 2023.
