Clare Media Committee Member Claims TV License Model Is A Necessity

A Clare member of the Oireachtas Media Committee insists that keeping the TV license in place is necessary, as the traditional funding model is ‘broken’.

It’s expected that the charge for the TV licence will remain at €160, as part of Media Minister Catherine Martin’s revised funding model for RTÉ, which will go before cabinet tomorrow.

It details the need for ‘additional compliance measures’ including identifying those who don’t pay their TV licence, with a first time offender liable for a €1,000 fine.
