A Clare-based mother whose children were born through surrogacy is concerned at the lack of progress to amend current legislation.

Following a protest outside Leinster House, it was announced that a Special Joint Oireachtas Committee will be established to make recommendations on international surrogacy.

Currently only biological parents are recognised as legal guardians, meaning those who become parents through surrogacy have to wait two years before they can apply for guardianship.

Kilrush mother Hilary O’Donovan welcomed twins from the Ukraine via surrogate in 2016 and is now calling for action.
