Clare Musician Finally Allowed To Leave Cruise Ship Caught Up In COVID Controversy

A Clare musician who had been stranded on board a cruise ship off Austalia for a month because of fears over COVID-19 has finally been allowed to return to dry land.

Corofin’s Killian Shannon is a member of Emerald Tide, who had been performing aboard the Ruby Princess.

It became the focus of controversy in Australia, after its passengers were allowed to disembark in Sydney in March.

That came despite more than a dozen people on board displaying symptoms of the virus – subsequently, hundreds of COVID cases and over 20 deaths in the country were linked to the ship.

Killian, who himself contracted COVID-19 but has since recovered, is now among a cohort of 49 staff and crew who have been allowed to leave the ship and he and his bandmates are hoping to fly home in the coming days:
