A Clare native academic says the UK’s decision to introduce a bill overriding the Northern Ireland Protocol has the potential to cause ‘chaos’.
The legislation removes all customs checks between Britain and the North and allows businesses in the six counties to choose whether to follow EU or UK regulations.

The EU may now respond with trade sanctions, and will watch keenly the passage of the protocol bill through the British Parliament.
Newmarket-on-Fergus native and Associate Professor of Politics at DCU, Donnacha O’Beacháin, says the move has introduced immediate uncertainty North of the border.
