Clare has been selected as one of ten counties where schools will receive solar panels free of charge under a €50m government scheme.
The solar schools programme will cover the full costs for primary and post-primary institutions here to install up to 16 photo-voltaic panels on their premises.
Each panel will be able to generate 6KW (Kilowatts) of electricity and any excess supply can be sold back to the national grid for profit.
Inagh Green Party Senator Roisín Garvey says the move will allow schools to prosper beyond the academic year.
