A major funding boost for roads in Clare has been deemed “a step forward” for road safety in this county.

The Minister for Transport has this week announced an investment package worth €658 million to bring local and regional roads to required standards with Clare receiving €43.5 million of this allocation.

Among the projects receiving funding is the Shannon Crossing Scheme which has been granted €19.5 million while over €725,000 has been put towards Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Works for roads and bridges in Clare impacted by extreme weather.

Inagh Green Party Senator Róisín Garvey says the works, some of which include traffic calming measures, will result in safer road journeys.
