While the Clare flags were flying high at Croke Park yesterday, the saffron and blue will also be out in force again in Tralee this evening.

For the first time in seven years, the Banner County has one of it’s own to cheer on in the televised portion of the Rose of Tralee Festival as Newmarket on Fergus woman Marie Donnellan takes to the stage.

She’s rated as one of the favourites ahead of the event, but earlier this month she told Clare FM that she wasn’t concerned about it’s competitive element.

Meanwhile,

East Clare man Pete O’Brien will be in the running for the Best Escort at this evening’s festivities..

The Ogonnelloe native and secondary school teacher who has represented the Banner at under-age and adult intercounty hurling level is accompanying the Donegal Rose to all her public engagements over the coming days.

He is among 32 chosen for the difficult task in Kerry this week and this evening – the best escort as chosen by the Roses will be unveiled at the Dome..
