Clare schools come under Dept. of Education spotlight in latest reports

Two West Clare national schools and a secondary school in Shannon are the latest to come under the spotlight from the Education Department.

Inspectors had strong praise for both the teaching staff and the quality of lessons at both Knockerra and Labasheeda while they also cited the wide curriculum at Saint Caimin’s in Shannon as one of the school’s particular strengths.

These latest reports published within the past fornight follow seperate inspections at the schools earlier this year.

Inspectors to Labasheeda found the work of the board of managment very good, the teachers committed to crreating a positive climate and good pupil knowlege – it recommended ways of getting parents more involved in school life.

In Knockerra inspectors found the work of the principal in leading the school is very good, pupils are very well managed and their engagment in lessons are of a high standard – among the recommendations were that the range of supports provided to pupils should be extended.

The whole school evaluation report into Saint Caimins Secondary School meanwhile listted off ten main strenghts including the quality of teaching and learning, parent satification, and a very good programme of self evalation and a wide curriculum.

Among the inspectors recommendations was that the student council needs to be supported more and that the schools should adopt a cycle of setting specifici and measurable targets using relevant baseline data.
