A Ballyvaughan woman will join other victims of a controversial childbirth proceduere as they take their campaign for justice to Dail Eireann today.

Ellen Moore has suffered chronic pain and other medical problems since she had a symphysiotomy performed on her, without permission, when she had her first child in a Midlands hospital in 1965.

The now discredited practice of Symphysiotomy involved the cutting of a woman’s pubic bone during childbirth and left many women with walking difficulties,  incontinence and back problems.

Survivors are calling on the government to lift the statute of limitations, to allow them to seek legal redress through the courts.
