A Clare TD has called for a nationwide ban on smoky coal.
Fine Gael Deputy Joe Carey says the ban – already in place in many towns and cities in Ireland, and parts of Clare including Ennis and the parts of South East Clare close to Limerick City – should be extended nationally to improve air quality.
Deputy Carey says there are some issues to be considered at European level, in order to implement a nationwide ban but he’s hoping current disparities whereby some areas of the county can use smoky coal, while other can’t ,will be changed.
