Clare TD Questions Length Of Time Taken To Identify Issues At Magowna House

A Clare TD has criticised the Government for taking so long to identify issues at an Inch property accommodating international protection applicants.

Residents of Magowna House – which are thought to number roughly 25 – were informed last week of a Government decision to move them to Dublin as “issues were raised following an inspection”.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Department of Integration says arrangements have been made to remove the residents “as a precaution” and that “alternative arrangements” will be made for those “who are in need of, and entitled to avail of state accommodation”.

Many voices were critical of the decision last year to use Magowna House for this type of accommodation, and Kilrush Independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne believes the timing of this latest decision is questionable.
