Clare’s Town Councillors deny claims that the local urban authorities are some form of " gravy train" for the elected members.

Last week the Environment Minister confirmed that the number of both councils and councillors will be reduced as part of efforts to reform local government.

Speaking in the Dáil Minister Phil Hogan also stated that he expected a decision to be made over the next week and with cabinet meeting today, there’s speculation an announcement could come later.

Representatives in Ennis Shannon Kilrush and Kilkee are anxiously awaiting a final decision from the Minister but insist their roles in the community is central to sustaining and boosting services.
