Clare Women Reminded Of Local Breastfeeding Support Services

Women in Clare who experience difficulties around breastfeeding are being reminded of the supports available to them this week.

National Breastfeeding Week kicks off tomorrow and a number of events will be held throughout the country under the theme of “supporting you from bump to baby and beyond”.

As of 2022, only 44% of Irish babies were fed breastmilk exclusively once they left maternity services and UNICEF has warned that this is “far behind” other developed countries during the first six months of a child’s life.

 

Clare resident and National Breastfeeding Coordinator for the HSE Laura McHugh says although certain women face particular obstacles, there are services that they can access within this county.
