A Clare election candidate who’s pledged to balance the ballot paper is insisting she and two other female candidates stand for more than just gender equality in politics.
Three Clare women are now part of the list of 16 candidates contesting the election following a last minute effort to ensure the line up included female representation, with Ann Cronin, Madeline McAleer and Sarah Ferrigan now commencing their campaigns.
Although Ennis businesswoman Madeline McAleer wants to represent women in Clare, she insists it’s not the only reason she’s running.
Meanwhile the last man to enter the General Election race wants to see better representation and opportunities for young people, the disabled and those with mental illness.
49 year old Ennis resident Patrick Brassil is originally from Newmarket on Fergus and is currently studying for a degree in counselling following years of involvement with the Clare branch of People with disabilities in Ireland.
Mr Brassil says he’s a hard worker for the marginalised in society and feels he could achieve more as a TD
