Revenue collected nearly 600 million euro in taxes in Clare last year.
New figures from the Revenue show that’s the ninth highest amount of any county in Ireland.
€594 million in taxes was paid here last year, out of an overall total of €4.7 billion.
Revenue says employees contributed almost €298 million in PAYE, Income Tax and USC, while net income tax receipts for the self-employed was just over €35 million.
€124 million was collected here in VAT, along with €125 million in Corporation Tax – in this category, Clare ranks fifth highest of all counties, demonstrating the reliance on large employers here.
Another €11 million was collected in capital gains tax.
The tax take here works out at around €5,000 for each man, woman and child living in the county.
