The number of defence forces personnel on the ground at Springfield, Clonlara is set to be stepped up as residents continue to deal with persistant flooding there.

The ESB is maintaining the flow of water through Parteen Weir at current levels, but says this could increase.

Today, Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has visited Springfield.

Minister Coveney heard the frustrations and anger from a number of homeowners here in Springfield this morning, including Geraldine Quinlivan.

She's among the dozens of residents whose homes have either been left inaccessible or badly damaged by floods which have now been here for the best part of four weeks.

The Council says water levels here dropped slightly overnight and are now two inches below the peak flood level of 2009.

Local authority workers, assisted by the fire service, civil defence and defence forces remain on the ground as locals make their case to Minister Coveney for a long-term solution.

The ESB says it will continue to discharge 470 cubic litres of water per second through Parteen Weir today, but that this could increase to the 2009 levels of 500 cubic litres per second in the coming days.

Minister Coveney, who's also over the Defence portfolio, says more military personnel will be here in the coming days to help exhausted homeowners keep waters at bay.

Local resident Lisa Griffin is fearful that they'll have to continue to live with flooding here for years
