The Irish Coast Guard Operations Management Team has been requested to attend an urgent meeting of Clare County Council.

It comes as the local authority is imminently expected to extend the lease and approve the expansion of the Kilkee Coast Guard Station.

Clare’s other units include the Doolin Coast Guard which also manages the Inis Oirr unit and the Killaloe Unit, which was Ireland’s first inland detachment and in the absence of a station, volunteers work out of a shipping container.

Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch insists an assessment is needed to ensure every unit is equipped with the resources and facilities they need.
