Over two years after the stormy weather of 2013 and 2014, the Department of Agriculture has opened a compensation scheme for landowners who suffered damage.

Storms from December 2013 to February 2014 wrought millions of euro of damage on County Clare, including waterlogged farmlands and and extensive damage to forests.

Minister Michael Creed has now opened the Windblow Reconstruction Scheme, which will allow maximum grants of 17,000 euro to be paid to farmers who meet the eligible criteria.

Further details are available on the Department's website, and the closing date for applications is next February.
