Concerns have been expressed over confirmed changes to  A&E services at Ennis General Hospital this year.

Outgoing hospital manager Frank Keane says the current A&E unit in Ennis will evolve into a medical assessment unit and a local injuries unit, with changes taking place in either the second or third quarter of this year.

Frank Keane insists 90% of those currently attending Ennis will continue to do so, though those with the most serious problems will be treated by paramedics while being transferred directly to Limerick.

Local representatives say they’re not convinced by the plan – Kilmaley Fianna Fail Councillor and member of the Health Forum West Tom McNamara.
