Fears are growing over a four-fold increase in the number of people in this region waiting for vital eye-care appointments.

A leading blindness charity’s warning that some patients in the Midwest are at risk of irreversible damage to their sight as they await treatment at University Hospital Limerick.

Over the last year, waiting lists for outpatient ophthalmology appointments have increased by 70 percent at the region’s main hospital.
