Further Concern Over Maternity Hospital Independence

A former Master of the Rotunda has said he’s unsure if the new national maternity hospital will be free from Catholic influence.

Dr Sam Coulter Smith has warned that ownership and governance must be kept entirely separate if it’s to remain autonomous.

His comments follow the resignation of fellow medics Peter Boylan and Chris Fitzpatrick amid fears that the The Sisters of Charity could interfere as owners.
