Deep concerns have been expressed as Ennis General Manager Frank Keane is expected to start his new role next week as one of the four directorates set to cover the six hospital sites in the region.

This will see him depart his position at Clare’s County Hospital and take up the job as maternity and child health directorate manager in Limerick.

And in a double blow for the hospital its understood  that the high dependency unit has now been removed from Ennis General following ongoing staffing difficulties- which came to a head over the Christmas period.

There’s been no official confirmation on the situation so far but a statement on the situation is pending from the Health Service Executive.

Late last year the HSE says the creation of four directorate  is part of the HSE’s strategy to develop a single acute hospital system with integrated management and clinical governance operating across Ennis, Dooradoyle, Croom, Regional Maternity, St John’s, and Nenagh.

However Ennis Councillor and member of the Health Forum West Brian Meaney says the importance of a stand alone manager for Ennis General cannot be overstated
