Cooney could be drafted onto Clare Fine Gael Election Ticket

Speculation is growing today that Fine Gael is set to add a fourth name to the party’s ticket in Clare.

Its thought that Bodyke councillor Joe Cooney may be put forward to contest the four seat constituency for the upcoming general election.

Clare FM understands that the popular East Clare representative has been approached by party figures but Clr Cooney , who topped the polls in the 2009 election, has refused to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile as Brian Cowen faces the battle of his political career later, another Clare Councillor and Fine Gael election candidate believes the Taoiseach should call time on the government and not a motion of confidence in himself.
