Cork mother sent forward for trial for death of her young son

A County Cork mother charged with murdering her eight-year old son has been sent forward for trial.

42-year old Diane Ward- of Harrison Place in Charleville – is accused of murdering her son Anthony, at their home on September 3rd last.

Superintendent Pat McCarthyof Mallow garda station served the Book of Evidence on Ms Ward this morning at Limerick District Court.

Ms Ward – who appeared before the court via video link wearing a black and white overcoat – confirmed her name and that she could hear proceedings.

The 42-year old from Harrison Place, Charleville, Co Cork, is charged with murdering her eight year old son, Anthony, at their home on September 3rd last.

The boy was found dead in a bedroom at his house.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly gave Ms Ward the ‘Alibi Warning’, explaining to her that she had 14 days to give the State, the contact details of any defence witnesses she may rely on at her forthcoming trial.

Ms Ward, who replied "OK", also thanked the judge after he granted an application by her solicitor for a junior and senior counsel to represent her at her trial.

Ms Ward was remanded in continuing custody to appear for trial, for the murder of her son, to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
