Corofin’s Water Treatment Plant has been removed from the list of “at risk” water supplies.

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that as a result of recent investment, the 1,300 people served by the plant in North Clare are now guaranteed a “safe and reliable” supply.

water quality report for 2023 published by the Environmental Protection Agency in July showed that the water supply in Corofin, as well as those in Ennistymon and West Clare, remained on its end-of-year Remedial Action List.

Now, thanks to an investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade the Corofin Water Treatment Plant, the water utility says “enhanced treatment facilities” have been provided including new clarification and filtration systems, residual treatment, dosing systems and a full electrical upgrade.

As a result, the plant, which serves 1,300 people, has been removed from the EPA’s “at risk” list.

Commenting on the news, Regional Drinking Water Compliance Manager at Uisce Éireann, Deirdre O’Loughlin, says the “critical upgrade at Corofin ensures ongoing compliance with drinking water regulations and significantly reduces the risk of future water quality issues”.

Infrastructure Delivery Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, Paul Cremin, says “this project ensures the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses in the local community”.
