A Clare Government TD believes an ‘opt in’ system for people to take the AstraZeneca vaccine should be made available for those who wish to avail of it.

NIAC has recommended against use of the jab in the under-60s because of the risk of very rare blood clotting.

It means the country is likely to administer 40,000 fewer jabs next week than planned as a result, though Clare’s vaccination centre at Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis is still scheduled to begin operations on April 26th.

However, Clarecastle-based Deputy Joe Carey says people under 60 who consent to receive the AstraZeneca jab should be allowed to get it.
