COVID-19 cases have continued to rise in the Shannon region this week.

It comes as three of Clare’s five electoral areas have registered less than five cases of the virus in the fortnight up to Monday.

Health Protection Surveillance data shows Shannon’s rate of COVID-19 stood at 121.7 per 100,000 people in the two weeks up to this Monday, May 10th.

It’s after 37 new cases of the virus were confirmed there in that period – more than the rest of Clare combined.

East Clare registered 8 cases in the same timeframe, with its rate at a basement 39.8 – it’s remained static in that part of this county for the past month.

The Ennistymon, Kilrush and Ennis electoral areas, though, have all registered less than five new cases each in the past fortnight.

Fewer than five new cases were once again confirmed here by NPHET last night, with Clare’s overall rate of 41.2 now the fifth lowest in the country.
