Council could face hefty costs on unused Ennistymon land

Clare County Council has admitted that plans to rezone land in Ennistymon could cost it a significant amount of money.

The council initially bought the 14 acre site on the Ennis road for social housing, but there has been no development there and now local representatives want to be re-zoned for recreational use

However the County Manager said that if the land is used for the construction of local authority housing then the council would be refunded the full purchase amount from central government but if it was re-zoned for recreational use they stood to be considerably out of pocket.

Plans for the rezoning of the land will now go to public consultation and North Clare Councillor Richard Nagle feels that the site must become the base for some much needed recreational and sporting  facilities.
