A major redevelopment of a GAA grounds in south Clare has been given the green light.

Clare County Council has granted planning permission for the construction of a new clubhouse and the creation of additional car parking at the home of Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA.

Cumann Luthchleas Gael Cora Chaitlín submitted a planning application on June 10th for a development at its GAA grounds on the Ballycar Road.

The main aspect of the development is a new clubhouse which the application states will consist of “fit-for-purpose changing facilities, gym facilities and a multi-purpose indoor space for club training and activities”.

According to the application, a new entrance won’t be required for the development and the new clubhouse will make use of and connect to the existing water supply connection and wastewater connection currently serving the existing clubhouse and changing facilities.

In a submission of unsolicited information on July 4th, CLG Cora Chaitlín states the proposed first-floor general purpose area will be used for underage kids’ fundamental movement classes and training as well as yoga and pilates classes for all ages.

It’s stated the proposed clubhouse will be for the use of club members and there’ll be no additional increase in car parking requirements arising from the development.

Clare County Council approved the application on July 31st subject to six conditions.

The Chief Executive’s Order stipulates that construction must take place between the hours of 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays with no works to take place on Sundays or on public holidays.
