Clare Councillors have called for shortfalls in government funding to be covered by a rebate on their public insurance.

Local authorities throughout Ireland are among the members of the Irish Public Bodies Insurance company, which has paid out a dividend of almost 230 thuosand euro to Clare County Council.

It’s now been suggested this be used to bridge the gap in funding left by the Environment Minister’s decision to with-hold almost a quarter of a million euro from it’s allocation of government funding.

In response however, Clare County Council says it has a number of financial shortfalls which need to be addressed.
