The Mayor of Clare feels the Environment Minister Phil Hogan has backed the county’s Fine Gael TDs into a corner by reneging on a promise to restore funding to local authorities.

Minister Phil Hogan with-held funds from local authorities, amounting to over 240 thousand euro in the case of Clare County Council, on the basis of household charge compliance but local Fine Gael TDs say he then assured them the money would be returned if compliance reached a satisfactory level.

Clare County Council is to hold a special meeting on the matter next Monday, to which Clare’s Oireachtas members are invited, and Fianna Fail Mayor Councillor Pat Daly is calling for a change in government policy
