Clare County Council has warned that there are significant liabilities which have to be met, as it works to address problems at the county’s unfinished housing estates.

Local authorities here are working to take in charge around 180 estates, a process which see Councils become responsible for services such as footpaths and public lighting.

With many estates here now in the hands of receivers or liquidators, or without developers, this process has become increasingly difficult and Clare County Council says it’s put a lot of resources into dealing with the problem.

Director of Services Ger Dollard says they’re trying to balance the needs of residents in affected estates with those of the wider public.
