Under 18s in Clare could be barred from buying aerosol paint sprays as a way to curb illegal graffiti in the county.
A former Mayor of Clare has proposed the measure as a means of tackling vandalism which she believes is a growing problem.
The measure is modelled on Challenge 25 – a European initiative which requires retailers to ask for ID for items such as fireworks and knives.
Ennis Fine Gael Councillor, Mary Howard says retailers should treat paint cans in the same way as the likes of alcohol or cigarettes to the stem the tide of the graffiti problem.
