Councillors look to address social housing shortage

Efforts to address what’s been called the critical shortage of social housing in Clare are set to be looked at today.

Waiting lists in the county  have grown in recent years – at the end of 2009, nearly 2,500 applicants were awaiting a home from the local authority.

It their monthly meeting later County Councillors will be calling on the council’s housing section  to provide a comprehensive report on the take up and availability of Rental Accommodation Scheme and lease options

Shannon  independent representative Gerry Flynn says action needs to be taken, though he admits that the problem will be tough to solve given current economic constraints
